Every church needs to buy goods and services. How do you know if you’re getting a good deal? Get bids and compare.
Getting competitive bids takes time and planning. Unfortunately, in most churches, decisions tend to be made at the last minute, meaning there isn’t time to get multiple bids. But forgoing the bid process is not good stewardship. I doubt any ministry leaders would walk on to a car lot and simply purchase the sticker price from the first dealership they visit. If we are careful with our own money, let’s give God’s money the same consideration, if not better.
When considering any purchase, here are some recommendations for receiving bids.
Small churches: get at least two bids to spend $1000 or more. Get at last three bids to spend $2,500 or more.
Large churches: get at least two bids to spend $2,500 or more. Get at least three bids to spend $5,000 or more.
